Portage Newspaper Supply was founded in 1955 in Akron, Ohio as a division of Knight-Ridder Corporation. In 2011, the company changed its name to Portage Notebooks to better reflect the core product line of notebooks produced by Portage today.

Portage?
Portage is a word of French and Latin derivation that refers to the carrying of boats and supplies between two waterways. In Northeast Ohio, we have a Portage county and many business beginning with the word Portage. The Indians portaged their canoes between the Cuyahoga and Tuswaras rivers. We were named in 1955 and have kept it proudly.
